In KDA309 System Design, our class collaborated with the Australian Red Cross on a project aimed at developing initiatives that build the resilience and social adaptive capacity of communities and individuals to address the human impacts of a changing climate.

My design process started with three potential design scenarios. By down-selecting down to one, I designed an app targeted towards young adults and above to promote cooperative online initiatives where people of all ages and backgrounds can collaborate to create novel approaches to enhancing community resilience.

To start the design process I made a rough markup of what I wanted to create, you can see the buttons aren’t aligned, there is no excitement throughout the pages, and there is no emphasis on the buttons to progress.

After an extensive amount of ideation and research, I created my first rounds of prototypes on Figma to generate a functioning high-fidelity prototype. My designs have grown since my AT2 submission, as I have changed the whole new brand identity before the exhibition, these were notes of constructive criticism such as creating a thicker typeface for the body text and minor adjustments and additions to icons.

Insights and Outcomes

In my final prototype I was able to create each frame using imported icons from various platforms to create a cohesive and coherent design. The pages were linked together and exported as a functioning prototype through Figma.

What is different about this design is the incorporation of different Icons that weren’t present in the past two prototypes. In addition, I swapped the graphics on the opening pages to eliminate some age bias as the graphics displayed children, to help fix this they have been swapped with more young adults as well as having the graphics match the Community colours.
